WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE...

Water tiene muchas posibilidades, como sabemos todos: we can wash with it, we can drink it, we can swim in it y we can make up sentences with it:

In hot water, en líos, en dificultades, problemas: Jack can’t come out with us tonight because he is in hot water with his wife.

To pour cold water on something or someone, echar un jarro de agua fría a algo o alguien: I had great plans but Jack poured cold water on them, as usual.

To hold water, es tener una buena base, ser firme: His project doesn’t hold water.

Y a watering hole, es una taberna, un bar.

To pass water es un eufemismo por orinar.

To break water es lo que hacen las parturientas, romper aguas: She broke water, rompió aguas.

To tread water, mantenerse a flote en el agua.

Tap water, agua del grifo.

Sparkling water, agua con gas.

Still water, agua sin gas.

Drinking water, agua potable.

To make water significa hacer agua y hacer aguas.

Antiguamente la gente iba a balnearios to take the waters a tomar las aguas.

También es verbo, como ya sabemos: to water, regar. To water the plants, regar las plantas.
