Good es adjetivo: A good person, a good restaurant.
Well es un adverbio: She speaks English well. She writes good poetry well. He dances well.
How are you? La contestación es I am well, pero se puede, y se suele, emplear good, sin problemas, aunque muchos dirán que es incorrecto (y suelen preguntar How good are you? de broma.)
Posible diferencia: I am well es estoy bien. I am good, me siento bien.
