INFINITIVO DE LOS VERBOS INGLESES

Esto es básico pero esencial y que hay que recordarlo siempre:

El infinitivo de los verbos se forma con to: to love, to wash, to look, to chat, to drink, porque a love es un amor, a wash es un lavado, a look es una mirada, a chat es una charla, a drink es un trago, una bebida. Los verbos son también sustantivos. Gran ventaja.
Quiero ir es: I want to go. ¿Quieres comprar esto? Do you want to buy this?

Nótese este uso del infinitivo: I have bought paint to paint the house, He comprado pintura para pintar la casa. My love loves another man, Mi amor ama a otro hombre.

Los verbos defectivos (can, may, might, must…) no tienen infinitivo y tampoco van seguidos de infinitivo (excepto ought to).

To have said, to have spoken, haber dicho, haber hablado.
Después de los verbos to appear y to seem: He seemed to have spoken the truth, Parecía haber dicho la verdad; she appeared to have stolen the ring, Ella parecía haber robado el anillo.

Paper, love, eye, pencil... significan papel, amor, ojo, lápiz... y to paper, to love, to eye, to pencil... significan empapelar, amar, ojear, escribir a lápiz.
