LAS LENGUAS INGLESA Y ESPAÑOLA de Delfín Carbonell

I have sent off the finished MS of the third and last volume of my Literatura en lengua inglesa III , which covers Sinclair Lewis to J. K. Rowling, and deals with 72 authors who have used the English language to produce their literary work. Written in Spanish, it has extensive quotations in English. It reflects my literary journey since boyhood and my reaction to my readings, both at the university and on my own, as a teacher. In a few months, the book will be available. I will correct two sets of galley proofs and possibly make minor changes.

Para ampliar y consolidar nuestro vocabulario, nuestra fraseología y nuestra  gramática y sintaxis, no hay nada más eficaz que la lectura. Ya sabemos que la lectura horroriza al español y, por lo tanto, pedirle que lea en lengua inglesa es pedir cotufas en el golfo. Pero ante todo, tranquilidad. No es necesario leer el  Oliver Twist de Charles Dickens.  Ahora tenemos internet al alcance de los ojos.   Yesterday I finished the second volume of   Literatura en lengua inglesa,  which is not a history of literature as people understand it,  but rather my impressions, reminiscences, reactions, and opinions on diverse authors I have read or been in contact with in my career. This volume starts with James Fenimore Cooper and ends with Eugene O'Neill. I have put it together in Spanish, in dialogue format between Celia and me, and we discuss authors in order of birth, which is unconventional but suits our purpose better. Writers I have not read and know little about are also included. It is not an erudite treatment of the subject, but I hope it may entice Spanish-speaking readers to delve deeper into both the English language and the literature written in it.

La novela va dirigida a jóvenes nativos del inglés, y emplea un lenguaje que es asequible a los estudiosos de este idioma. Ya saben que siempre digo que para dominar un idioma, hay que leerlo, pero poco a poco, con lecturas modernas, simples, asequibles, con un inglés moderno de hoy. Esto lo hace Diederich muy bien, mejor que Dickens y Jane Austen, con su inglés decimonónico.    

Leer en voz alta es una práctica eficaz que conduce a ejercitar las complejas técnicas de la pronunciación inglesa. Trata de leer, de declamar, estos textos como si fueses el político, el actor, el conferenciante, ante un público que te escucha y que debe entenderte, con sentimiento, con el ritmo y cadencia apropiados. Con cierta lentitud, saboreando los sonidos, con un estilo relajado y normal. Esto te ayudará a modular la voz, a vocalizar bien, a emitir sonidos de manera clara. La clave de la comunicación es hablar bien, eficazmente y con buena enunciación y dicción.. Expresarse bien está ligado al éxito en la vida y es la piedra angular de las relaciones entre personas y en la sociedad en general. Podemos practicar los sonidos leyendo, declamando, los siguientes ejemplos, despacio, poniendo énfasis en los fonemas, disfrutando de ellos. También se pueden escuchar en internet.
