One of the problems Internet has is its lack of reliability. Any Tom, Dick and Harry can upload whatever and misguide would-be scholars in search of answers. We cannot take what we read online at face value. I am not attacking WordReference (Who is compiling WordReference ? Who is the author responsible for it? What methodology is being used?), I am simply stating that we must beware of this reference tool bearing translations or giving equivalencies. Yesterday the word "hoard" eluded me but the Spanish "acopiar" came to mind. So, I looked up "acopiar" in WR. What did I get in English? "couple", "join", "unite", "hitch", "connect". Obviously they are thinking of "acoplar", not "acopiar." I know the difference between "acopiar" and "acoplar"... but what about someone who does not? And this is only an instance. There are wrong entries and wrong equivalents galor...

Phrases -idioms- in languages are like fossils, static in time. Thus in English we say All day long but All year round ... (todo el día, todo el año) and do not ask why, and do not even point out the inconsistencies, grammatical or logical, in them. People often get all confused and say and write all year long , for example, because they forget or ignore or do not give a hoot. Whatever. But I checked. And my research led me to WordReference and its forums... Take the time to check either English expression (or any other) and you will find out how daring people are with matters linguistic. People who show a complete lack of mastery of English give answers to others who are in the same linguistic boat. I guess that in the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king (en el país de los ciegos el tuerto es rey.) WordReference and Wickipedia are fine projects but lack seriousness and scholarship.
