Para todos aquellos que creen en los traductores de Internet y la IA, les doy otra muestra de su capacidad. La expresión castellana "no ganar para disgustos", traducida al inglés por ChatGPT, resulta: "To not win for disappointments." DeepL nos da otra versión: "Do not earn for unpleasantness." Google Translate nos dice: "Do not win for disappointments." Podemos pasar un rato agradable suministrando fraseología a estos traductores y nos reiremos mucho.

 Idiomatic expressions, idioms, are the bane of learners and translators, even the bane of Google Translate "lexicographers," and "goofies" behind DeepL.  -- "Usted es muy dueño de hacer lo que quiera" is rendered by DeepL as "you are very much in charge of doing what you want" instead of "you are very much at liberty to do what you want." -- "El jefe nos tiene a todos en un puño" appears as "the boss has all in a fist" rather than "under his thumb." -- "Coger el rábano por las hojas" is given as "pick up the radish by the leaves" and skirts the "to put the cart before the horse." -- "Una merienda de negros" turns out as "black market snack" when "a Chinese fire drill" would be a better equivalent. No offense meant, either way. -- "Bebo una cerveza de Pascuas a Ramos" is jokingly rendered as "I drink an Easter beer to bouquets."...

Ya he escrito sobre las traducciones (en VOXXI, FoxNews Latino) pero como estoy trabajando en un nuevo libro sobre fraseología inglesa y castellana , que quiero que sea definitivo y bien hecho, y no con las traducciones de cachondeo, de risa y guasa a las que los diccionarios nos tienen acostumbrados, me dio el otro día por darle a Google Translate una oportunidad, a  ver por dónde salía. El resultado fue lo que sigue: -Cargar con el mochuelo me lo tradujo, sin pestañear, con un "bear the owl." -Cantar las cuarenta a alguien es para Google Translate "sing the forty". - Por el canto de un duro quedó como "by the sound of a hard". - Tener cara de no haber roto un plato en la vida me descojonó: "face did not melt in life." - Echar un capote , que es frase muy torera ella, es para Google "take a cloak". - ¡Te la vas a cargar! es "you are going to charge." - Cargar las tintas resulta más interesante con un "pile...
