THERE IS / THERE ARE
Es curioso que el verbo HABER tiene las formas impersonales “hay”, “hubo”, “había”, “habrá”… en formal singular, y no en plural. No todos los hablantes hacen caso a esto y nos dicen: “Habrán problemas”. El francés lo explica con el “il y a” y el inglés emplea la forma impersonal: There is/are, there was/were, there will be . Habrá mucha gente: there will be many people. Habrá muchos problemas: there will be many problems. Hay dos libros sobre la mesa, there are two books on the table. Hay un melón sobre la cama, there is a melon on the bed. ¿Cuántos hay en la habitación? How many are there in the room? ¿Cuántos había? How many were there? Parece, y es, fácil, pero hay que is con cautela para no “meter la pata.”
