At one point in her debate with Mr. Trump, Hillary Clinton mentioned a Venezuelan beauty the Republican had sneered at. She said (and I am quoting from memory) "... she is a Latina woman..." making a distinction, alien to English, changing the adjective to the feminine -to agree with woman, I guess.-
She did not say "... Latino woman..." And she did not utter the other possibility, plain "... Latina..."
Of course, politicians suck big time, and Clinto should have defended the "woman" without any adjectives. But this is not our business now.
Our business is to note how politicians beat up the language and change it. It also shows how confused they are with Latino, Latina, Hispano, Hispanic...
