FINE FEATHERS...

Fine feathers make fine birds, or better in the negative: fine feathers do not make fine birds, which would in Spanish be "el hábito no have al monje", which could be shifted to "el hábito have al monje". What we wear definitely does make a difference, whatever may be said to the contrary nowadays. And per usual, there are many synonyms, or ways, to express ideas in idioms. For example: an ape is an ape, a varlet is a varlet, whether they be clad in silk or scarlet whose equivalent in Castillian is "aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona see queda". We must bear in mind that language is supple and ever-changing.
