WHAT + TO BE + LIKE es una combinación aparentemente rara pero que tiene muchos usos en lengua inglesa.

What is your sister like? ¿Cómo es tu hermana? (Tall, pretty, rich...)
How is your sister? ¿Cómo está tu hermana? (sigue con fiebre, ya está recuperada...)

Otros ejemplos:
What is the weather like? ¿Cómo está el tiempo?
You know what boys are like. Ya sabes cómo son los chicos.

I don't know what it would be like to be married. No sé cómo sería estar casado.
What would it be like to live in the Sahara? ¿Cómo sería vivir el en Sahara?

You don't know what it is like to put up with that man. No sabes lo que es aguantar a ese hombre.
