Guess what? After years of "Colegios de Educación Bilingüe", Spain has come to the conclusion that this experiment has been a fiasco. The idea of teaching in both English and Spanish in the classroom has fallen through, after so many years. Javier Marías, the writer, alerted about this oncoming failure years ago. The culprits? Poorly chosen teachers whose mastery of the language was lacking for the most part. Often teachers would hold the class in Spanish because they were unable to do so in English. The textbook was written in English, exercises were done in English, as well as tests, but the class lecture was carried out in Spanish. Another culprit? Money and the lack of it, Instead of hiring qualified history experts who could lecture in good English, the average history teacher was forced to take over in a language they did not command. And the result has been a disaster, a farce, a shambles. And what is worse, those students who underwent the sham experiment will hate the language forever.
