PUNS and RETRUÉCANOS

A pun is a form of wordplay that exploits the multiple meanings of a word, or the similarity of sound between different words, to create a humorous or witty effect. Puns often involve clever wordplay, double entendre, or tricks on words. The Spanish equivalent is retruécano, although it is not a well-known word, or even commonly used. Examples are:

-I used to be a baker but I could not make enough dough.

-Why did the bicycle fall over? Because it was two-tired.

-I bought a wooden whistle, but it wooden whistle.
