"would" se utiliza también para expresar la idea de hábito, repetición y costumbre en el pasado:

When I was a child my father would take me to school piggyback.

I remember that when my father was angry he would shout in French.

When I was in Kentucky I would get up early to see the sun rise.

When I was in the hospital I would not talk to anybody.
