The Passive Voice is an important grammatical element in English, even though we should avoid it whenever possible, as Strunk and White tell us. After all, the active voice is more active than the passive voice (pun indeed intended). Yet, the English passive is influencing Spanish through journalism, through "gacetilleros" who do not respect the tool of their trade, language. We read and hear strange ways of expression that are shocking and disturbing. Allow me:
--"El gallego es hablado en el campo principalmente" instead of the normal "Se habla gallego en el campo principalmente" or "Hablan gallego en el campo."
-- "El presidente Sánchez ha sido apartado del gobierno." (Wishful thinking, I know) instead of "Han apartado al presidente Sánchez del gobierno."
"La frase ha sido muy comentada." Better: "Se ha comentado mucho la frase."
"Se habla español aquí" = Spanish is spoken here.
"Dicen que es rico" = It is said he is rich.
"Se dice que es rico" = It is said he is rich. The idea is passive but the form is not, and sounds so much Spanish than the passive.
