LANGUAGE ETIQUETTE

Conventional requirements for linguistic behavior and propriety are called Language Etiquette. I am fully aware that the word etiquette, along with the term manners went out of style years ago, to the point that younger generations (those under 30) have no idea of their meaning. And what is much worse, older generations, trying to stay young and chic and hip, copy the youngsters and ignore politeness in daily intercourse with others. I must insist that when a Spanish speaker talks to us in broken and painful English, out of politeness we will never answer in Spanish. That would be a slap in the person´s linguistic face and abilities. Ignoring his broken English gibberish would be truly offensive even though it is, I know, very trying on one´s nerves. So, let us be patient and polite linguistically and put up with the language inadequacies of others and remain calm for the sake of etiquette.
