Phraseology helps keep old words alive after they have lost their currency. Such is the case of the Spanish "soplillo" which, according to María Moliner, was: "Utensilio empleado para abanicar el fuego; suele ser un tejido de esparto o palma de forma circular, con un mango." "Tener orejas de soplillo" means having jug (big, bat, elephant) ears.
