IMPROVING YOUR SPANISH PRONUNCIATION

Myths pass on from generation to generation, unquestioned and unexamined. One such is that Spanish is pronounced as it is written, or, if you will, it is written as it is pronounced, which leads the unaware student to believe that learning Spanish is a cinch. For example, the fricative /d/ is so very fricative that it often is inaudible, and disappears in practice. A good example, among many others, is the words that end in -tad or -dad:
Libertad is pronounced and heard as libertá.
Lealtad is pronounced and heard as lealtá.
Dignidad is pronounced and heard as dignidá.
Actualidad is pronounced and heard as actualidá.
Estabilidad is pronounced and heard as estabilidá
Variedad is pronounced and heard as variedá
