HUGH RAWSON AND MY BREVE DICCIONARIO COLOQUIAL ESPAÑOL-INGLES

Hugh Rawson in his prologue to my Breve diccionario coloquial español-inglés:

"... it is not surprising that the makers of bilingual dictionaries usually throw up their hands when it comes to slang. They either give slang terms short shrift or avoid them entirely, focusing instead on the more socially acceptable, easier-to-define terms that are used in the living room, auditorium, and schoolroom, say, as opposed to the military barracks, athletic stadium, or schoolyard.

Yet life flourishes in the latter venues, and those who wish to understand more fully the language used in them will be thankful to Delfin Carbonell Basset for preparing this Dictionary of Slang, English and Spanish. He has broken new ground by providing translations of words and phrases that are frequently encountered in daily life but which are generally omitted from dictionaries of this sort.
