-ISM VS -ISMO
English is a treasure-trove
of oddities. The ending (suffix) -ism has
a phonetical peculiarity that must be practiced often by those who battle with
English-acquiring hurdles.
It must be “-izm”, making
sure you pronounce both the voiced “s” and the final “m.” (This is for Hispanic
speakers.)
Go to a dictionary online
and check and listen to:
Euphemism
Nationalism
Capitalism
Opportunism
Fundamentalism
Existentialism
Utilitarianism
This is more important than
meets the “ear.”
