A LA LARGA

 

When we want to project something -projects, ideas, habits, plans- into the distant future, we say that "in the long run" it will be beneficial, or "over the long haul" it will backfire... and Spanish expresses this idea with "a la larga" which is, at least, peculiar. But it is what it is and so:

--“Aunque la modernidad y las otras razones de orden económico se esgrimen para defender la vía no legal indiscutiblemente, tal situación a la larga o a la corta...” Adelante, 20/11/2003. Cuba.
