"FUCK" O LA PALABRA PROSCRITA.

 De origen incierto, en parte debido a su temprana proscripción en los registros escritos, lo que retrasó su aparición en los diccionarios hasta época relativamente reciente. A pesar de su uso común y cotidiano, la palabra fuck, también conocida como the F-word en círculos puritanos, ha sido relegada, prohibida y a menudo ninguneada.

La falta de un verbo neutro en inglés que abarque todos sus matices ha favorecido la proliferación de numerosos eufemismos para evitarla, tales como to make love, to sleep with, to have sex, to have relations with, to have intercourse, etc.

El lexicógrafo Tony Thorne, en The Dictionary of Contemporary Slang, señala: “The most commonly used four-letter word, used intransitively (let’s fuck) and transitively (he fucked her/him).”

Veamos algunos ejemplos de uso:

1. Verbo (sentido literal):
Jack and Mary are having a quick fuck in the kitchen.
Mary’s boyfriend wants to fuck her all the time.

2. Interjección / exclamación (similar a damn o hell):
Fuck you, son of a bitch!
Fuck the car!

3. Intensificador:
The fucking job; the fucking boss; you are nothing but a fucking bitch.

Como observa Hugh Rawson en su ya clásica obra Wicked Words:
“This tendency in the use of the word is epitomized by the story of the sailor, who tells his shipmates about his adventures on leave: I had a fucking great time. First, I went to a fucking bar where I had a few fucking drinks, but it was filled with de-fucking-generates. So I went down the fucking street to another fucking bar, and there I met this incredibly fucking good-looking broad, and after a while we went to a fucking hotel where we rented a fucking room and had sex.”

Y más:
“I need some fucking help.” (Kim Newman, Bad Dreams. London: Simon & Schuster Ltd, 1990).

“In restaurants, girls haughtily discuss cocks and fucking, but hardly anything happens.” (New Statesman and Society. London: Foundation House, 1992).

4. Sustantivo e insulto:
A fucker designa a una persona despreciable (aprox. “un jodido mierda”):
The neighbors are a bunch of fuckers.

5. Locuciones verbales:
To fuck someone up también significa jorobar, perjudicar seriamente a alguien:
The boss fucked me up real good.

La extraordinaria versatilidad de esta palabra explica tanto su vitalidad en el uso cotidiano como los continuos intentos de evitarla mediante eufemismos.
