WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS IS...

"What this country needs is a good five-cent cigar", a well-known American phrase coined, it seems, by a politician, Thomas Marshall, whose quidity is similar to Thoreau's "simplify, simplify." Any country needs an easy-to-understand government language, English, Spanish, or Farsi, through instruction in their national language, ensuring communication is accessible to allWhat any country needs is good drilling in their language to make communication available to all.  What we need is a good five-cent book that might spread culture, the five-cent theater ticket. Just as a nation benefits from clear, accessible language, it also thrives on affordable books to spread culture and inexpensive theater tickets to cultivate the arts. The 'five-cent' philosophy reminds us that the essentials of culture and communication should be simple, accessible, and within everyone's reach.
