BALONES AND CANS IN IDIOMS
Celia has been helping me put together my Literatura en lengua inglesa series, published by Editatum. I have decided to ask her to lend me a hand with the entries in this Blog. We both have 24 hours in a day, but she has promised to spare me some time to cooperate with me and share her ideas about English and Spanish, focusing on grammatical and linguistic points.
"I have been trying to translate into English the rather recent Spanish idiomatic expression "echar balones fuera." Can you help?" Celia asks.
"We could parallel it with Dodge (evade, sidestep, skirt) an issue," I answer, right off the bat. "But perhaps 'kick the can down the road' would better correspond and mirror the balones fuera."
"Kick the can down the road sounds like fun and a good duplicate." Celia is enthusiastic.
"I am glad you like it."
"Thank you." Celia seems content with my solution.
