Some people are spaghetti, others are macaroni, and then—there’s David.
Estar hecho de otra pasta is the Spanish way of saying someone is cut from a different cloth, molded from a different clay, or—if you’re feeling whimsical—a completely different ball of wax. In short: the odd duck in the pasta aisle.
Fernando Aramburu in Los vencejos (2021) says: “Yo no. Yo estoy hecho de otra pasta…”
And the Diario de Yucatán (1997) noted about Goizueta: “… simplemente, estaba hecho de otra pasta.”
In English, David doesn’t just do things differently—he marches to a different beat, while the rest of us are still fumbling for the drumsticks.
So, next time you meet someone who seems strange, unusual, or delightfully peculiar, don’t just call them “weird.” Say:
👉 “He’s made of a different clay.”
👉 “She’s a different ball of wax.”
Because let’s face it—life would be very boring if we were all the same pasta or clay.
