3 TIPS ON LEARNING SPANISH WHILE I DIGRESS
Let me digress today. Yesterday, a person who knows no English congratulated me on my mastery of the language. I have also been told that my Spanish is good. I take these compliments with a grain of salt because they come from unqualified experts. The matter of proficiency in a language is something I think often about. The study of language is a lifelong task or endeavor. However, if my reader now is studying Spanish, and here I digress, I would like to offer 3 tips that might help: 1. Avoid the passive voice and don't say "David ha sido visto" instead of "Han visto a David." 2. Use the progressive form only when necessary: "No puedo hablar con él porque estoy comiendo" against "cuando como, no hablo." 3. Learn the subjunctive well and use it, and do not say "hasta donde yo sé" instead of "que yo sepa" as ignorant natives are prone to utter for "as far as I know."
