In times of yore, to be able to celebrate a birthday, another birthday was quite an accomplishment. Because of many factors, health factors mainly, people dropped like flies, especially in childhood. So humankind started celebrating birthdays and now we have several ways of wishing people, or reminding people how lucky they are they have made it another year safe and sound. So, here we have some possibilities in English:
Happy birthday to you!
Many happy returns of the day!
A year older, a year bolder, a year wiser!
Wishing you a very happy birthday!
In Spanish we might say:
Feliz cumpleaños.
Que sea por muchos años.
Que cumplas muchos más (y yo que lo vea).
Felicidades.
