El hispanohablante nos dirá "pero es que no tengo tiempo". Y el anglófono replicará "but I have no need for it", por ejemplo.
Las dos expresiones cortan las excusas de raíz, antes de que se produzcan.
"You must do your homework and no ifs or buts about it." ¿Está claro?
La expresión inglesa ha dado pie a "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we would have a merry Christmas" para demostrar lo mucho que la gente, en ambas culturas, intenta excusarse y escurrir el bulto.
